BEYOND THE TITHE
Giving involves so much more that tithing.
Paul described the Christian life as one that is completely
given to God.
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to
present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable
to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. Romans
12:1
Jesus explained that
our life should not be focused on things.
Do not worry
then, saying, "What will we eat?" or "What will we drink?"
or "What will we wear for clothing?" For the Gentiles
eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father
knows that you need all these things. But seek first His
Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be
added to you. Matthew 6:31-33
We are called to a
life of total commitment to the Lordship of Christ.
If anyone wishes
to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his
cross daily and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his
life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake,
he is the one who will save it. For what is a man profited
if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself?
Luke 9:23-25
Tithing from our
income is one indication of our commitment to Jesus. Jesus is
Lord means that all our possessions, time, energy, and life
belong to Him. He is Lord!
Then Peter
answered and said to Him, "Behold, we have left everything
and followed You; what then will there be for us?"
And Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, that you who
have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man
will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon
twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. "And
everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or
father or mother or children or farms for My name's sake,
shall receive many times as much, and shall inherit eternal
life. Matthew 19:27-29
