TITHING AND JOYFUL GIVING
What Is Tithing?
A tithe is giving 10% of my income
Genesis 28:20-22 Then
Jacob made a vow, saying "If God will be with me and will
keep me on this journey that I take, and will give me food
to eat and garments to wear, and I return to my father's
house in safety, then the Lord will be my God. This stone,
which I have set up as a pillar, will be God's house, and of
all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You."
Leviticus 27:30 Thus
all the tithe of the land of seed of the land or of the
fruit of the tree, is the Lord's; it is holy to the Lord.
Malachi 3:10 Bring the
whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food
in My house, and test Me now in this, says the Lord of
hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and
pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.
What Is The Difference Between A Tithe And An Offering?
A tithe is 10% of my income. An offering is anything I give after
I have given my tithe.
Why Should I Tithe?
1. Because it demonstrates
that God is Lord of my life.
Deuteronomy 14:22-23
"You shall surely tithe all the produce from what you sow,
which comes out of the field every year. You shall eat in
the presence of the Lord your God, at the place where He
chooses to establish His name, the tithe of your grain, your
new wine, your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and your
flock, so that you may learn to fear the Lord your God
always."
Matthew 6:24 "No one
can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and
love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the
other. You cannot serve God and wealth."
2. Because tithing reminds me
that everything was given by God.
Deuteronomy 8:17-18
"Otherwise, you may say in your heart, My power and the
strength of my hand made me this wealth. But you shall
remember the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you
power to make wealth, . . ."
3. Because God expects me to use
my income to do good.
2 Corinthians 9:8 And
God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always
having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an
abundance for every good deed;
4. Because tithing is an act of
trusting God to provide for my needs.
2 Corinthians 9:10-11
Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food
will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase
the harvest of your righteousness; you will be enriched in
everything for all liberality, which through us is producing
thanksgiving to God.
5. Because the kingdom of God is
strengthened by my giving.
2 Corinthians 9:12-13
For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying
the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through
many thanksgivings to God. Because of the proof given by
this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to
your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the
liberality of your contribution to them and to all,
6. Because tithing reveals what
is most important to me.
Matthew 6:19-21 "Do not
store up for yourselves treasures on earth . . . but store
up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth
nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or
steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be
also.
7. Because giving reflects the
character of God.
John 3:16 "For God so loved
the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever
believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."
2 Corinthians 9:15
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
